Terms of service
Your use of smtppeek is subject to these terms. The Free tier is available immediately. Paid subscriptions are not yet available for purchase — see the Billing section below.
Acceptance
By using smtppeek (the "Service"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These terms may be updated; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Description of the Service
smtppeek is an SMTP diagnostic tool. You provide a mail server hostname and a standard port (25, 465, or 587). The Service opens an outbound TCP connection to that server, reads the public SMTP greeting banner, sends an EHLO command, and reports the server's advertised capabilities to you. The Service does not send email, authenticate, or store data.
Free tier
The Free tier is available to everyone at no cost. No account, sign-up, or payment is required. Rate limits apply to ensure fair access for all users. The Free tier includes:
- Single-port SMTP checks (25, 465, or 587)
- SMTP banner and capability readout
- STARTTLS detection
- Authentication method identification
- Connection timing measurement
Billing
Payment processing is not yet active. A Pro subscription tier is planned but cannot be purchased today. The billing terms below describe the pricing and policies that will apply once payment processing is connected. No payment information is collected anywhere on this site.
Pro subscription
The Pro tier costs $9 per month, billed monthly in advance. A Pro subscription includes:
- All Free tier features
- Multi-port scan — check ports 25, 465, and 587 simultaneously
- Export results (JSON, CSV)
- Priority processing — reduced queue wait time
- No rate limit on API requests
- Comparison view against known-good SMTP baselines
Billing period
Pro subscriptions are billed monthly on the anniversary of the subscription start date. The first charge occurs at the time of subscription. Each subsequent charge occurs on the same day of each following month.
Failed payments
If a payment fails (card declined, expired, insufficient funds):
- We will retry the charge automatically up to 3 times over 7 days.
- If payment is still not received after the retry period, Pro access will be suspended until the payment succeeds.
- During suspension, your account reverts to Free tier limits. No data is deleted.
- If payment is not received within 30 days of the original due date, the subscription will be cancelled.
Refund policy
All Pro subscription charges are non-refundable except:
- If the Service is unavailable for more than 48 consecutive hours due to a fault on our side, you may request a prorated refund for the affected period.
- If you cancel within 14 days of your initial subscription, you may request a full refund for the first month's payment.
Refund requests must be made through the billing contact provided when payment processing is live. The Service owner has not yet established a legal entity or registered address — formal invoicing and tax documents are not yet available.
Changes to pricing
Pricing for the Pro tier may change in the future. Existing subscribers will be notified at least 30 days before any price increase affecting their subscription. The Free tier will always remain free.
Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service only for legitimate diagnostic purposes. You may not:
- Use the Service to probe mail servers without authorisation.
- Automate requests at a rate that degrades service for other users beyond the stated rate limit.
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
Limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. smtppeek is a diagnostic aid — it does not guarantee that a mail server is correctly configured or secure. The owner of this service shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use the Service.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom. The owner has not yet designated a specific legal entity or registered address for formal service of process.
Contact
The Service owner has not yet provided a contact address. This section will be updated when contact information becomes available.
